2007, #145 (1412) Azerbaijan is leading negotiations with Georgia, Russia and Turkey to create a unified energy system, announced vice president of Azerenergy Marlen Askerov at a recent press conference. Askerov said that Russia manages one of the energy networks on the Georgian-Turkish border. Moscow would like Azerbaijan to be involved, suggesting transmitting Russian-produced electricity through Azerbaijan and Georgia into Turkey, according to the news agency Regnum. The proposed transit tariffs would be fine with Azerbaijan, said Askerov. "Russia will
pay for transit and will take responsibility for the technical expenses.
The creation of this system is available for us from economic and technical
viewpoints," explained the vice president of Azerenergy.
