South Ossetian conflict talks fail to reach agreement
The two-day Joint Control Commission (JCC) session concluded Wednesday with nothing to show, as the four co-chairs failed to sign off on any agreements. The South Ossetian conflict issues talks, the first full meeting of the quadripartite talks format in more than year, commenced with low expectations as the Georgian, Russian, South Ossetian and North Ossetian co-chairs gathered in the OSCE’s Tbilisi office on Tuesday. Israel concerned with Georgia-Iranian relations
Israel expressed concern over Georgia’s relations with Iran this week as Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili paid an official visit to Jerusalem. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni spoke of “the problematic view Israel has of the ongoing dialogues between Georgia and Iran,” in a meeting with her Georgian counterpart on October 23, according to an Israeli Foreign Ministry press release. Serious improprieties uncovered in state university branch
On October 23, Tbilisi State University (TSU) rector Gia Khubua announced that the university’s internal investigation commission discovered serious improprieties at its regional branch in Kvemo Kartli. (more)

Who would fake an assassination plot?
Russian news agency Regnum published a strange little article on October 21. Consisting almost entirely of a quote from a “competent source in Georgia,” the piece suggested that Tbilisi is plotting to assassinate its own anti-secessionist leader in breakaway South Ossetia. (more)
