“Okruashvili and his party call for unity”

Akhali Taoba reports that former Defence Minister and leader of the Movement for United Georgia Irakli Okruashvili has appealed to all political parties, and Georgian society, for unity and firmness in the face of Russian aggression. Eka Beselia, one of the members of the party, stated this in Saturday’s press briefing.

‘Our party leader and its members think that every person should overcome their private or other ambitions and unite to defend the unity of the country”, Beselia stated.

Beselia says that Georgia should demonstrate its unity, firstly to the aggressor, the Russian Federation, and then to the entire international community.



“Saakashvili meets with Opposition leaders”

Akhali Taoba writes that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has met with opposition leaders and expressed his appreciation to them for their support.

The President has confirmed that Georgia will withdraw its military contingent from Iraq. “2,000 servicemen will be pulled out of Iraq today”, the President said.

Saakashvili has provided opposition leaders with detailed information about the recent situation in Georgia.



“Russia and USA agree to work together for Georgian-Ossetian conflict resolution”

Russia and the United States have agreed to collaborate with each other in order to resolve the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, 24 saati reports. US State Department official Daniel Fried stated this in an interview with Reuters.

Fried said he had conducted a telephone conversation with the deputy Russian Foreign Minister in which the Minister agreed to stop the fighting and the two parties agreed to cooperate with each other.

Fried said that the USA is sure that the shooting in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone was started by the Ossetian side.
