As Iran officials have stated, Tehran is against the construction of an oil pipeline from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan on the bed of the Caspian Sea. According to Iran’s Deputy Minister of Oil the pipeline could damage the ecology and Iran is against any kind of project which could put the Caspian Sea’s ecological balance at risk. He also highlighted that Russia is against this project too.

An oil pipeline designed by Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan would presumably increase the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline if built. The Bush administration was much in favour of this project.
