Shashkin begins new democratic reforms

Sakartvelos Respublika writes that The Minister of Penitentiary, Probation and Legal Assistance Dmitri Shashkin has met Ambassadors and representatives of international organizations. Shashkin stated after the meeting that international partners will help the Ministry address problems in the present Georgian penitentiary system and outlined his action plan.

Shashkin said that he had agreed with the Ambassadors and representatives to hold this kind of meeting once a month. John Tefft, the US Ambassador to Georgia, reported that he welcomes the introduction of new democratic reforms.



Danish officials visit Defence Ministry

Sakartvelos Respublika reports that a delegation from the Denmark Defence Ministry and General Staff has visited the Georgian Defence Ministry. The purpose of the visit is to improve bilateral collaboration between the countries and draw up corresponding plans.

Irakli Kochashvili, Deputy Director of the International Relations and Euro-Atlantic Integration department of the Defence Ministry, received the delegation.



Nino Burjanadze meets supporters in Marneuli

Akali Taoba reports that Nino Burjanadze, the leader of the Democratic Movement-United Georgia, met members of regional organizations of the party and supporters in the centre of Marneuli on Wednesday and then visited the Talibov family in Kizilajoli, a village nearby.

Nino Burjanadze congratulated Azeri people living in Marneuli on the holy day of Novruz Bayram. Burjanadze stated she had visited Marneuli especially to bestow these congratulations. She added that Democratic Movement-United Georgia has many supporters and that ethnic Azeri people will take part in the protests on April 9 alongside the rest of the population.

Democratic Movement-United Georgia has 7,500 registered members in Kvemo Kartli, of which 1,500 are from Marneuli.
