Tbilisi will no longer receive freight transit trains

General Director of Georgian Railway Irakli Ezugbaia has stated that in the near future freight transit trains will no longer stop at Tbilisi. A special 30 kilometre railway track, along with a special station and infrastructure, is to be built outside the capital to receive such trains.

EBRD is involved in financing this project and will pay 70% of its total cost of Euro 222 million. The infrastructure and tracks will be finished in three years, bring considerable relief to Tbilisi’s transport network.
