Conference on Georgia and Abkhazia held in Tbilisi

On March 3 the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel hosted a conference about Georgia-Abkhazia relations entitled 'Guarantees for Non-Resumption of Hostilities: Apprehensions in the Georgian-Abkhaz Context.' The conference, organised by International Alert and the Foundation for the Development of Human Resources, discussed ways to prevent the resumption of military activities in the region and the non-use of weapons within the context of Georgia-Abkhazia relations.

The participants also discussed the results of a survey undertaken during the past few months about the possibility of further military action in Abkhazia. The original survey was begun before the August 2008 war, but the armed conflict changed its goals and it was launched again a few months ago. The survey was published in the Georgian, English and Russian languages.
