The Turkish population, in particular that in the regions close to Armenia, has been expressing repeated concern over the functioning of the Metsamor nuclear power station as in the case of leakage radioactive contamination of Turkish territory is very probable. The locals insist that Armenia must close down the nuclear power station as soon as possible.

Another possible threat expressed is that the power station might be damaged by an earthquake, and consequently create an uncontrollable situation.
