Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz has stated that the terrorist threat has made it necessary to take additional measures to protect the pipelines passing through Turkey, such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan. The Army, Interior Ministry and special task forces are now involved in pipeline protection.

So far there have not been any instances of terrorist attacks on the gas or oil pipelines but possible scenarios of such attacks are being discussed in the Turkish media. We think it would also be appropriate for Georgia to take stronger measures to protect pipelines passing through its territory.
