Again NABUCCO

The NABUCCO has aroused much controversy. One of the questions some sceptics ask is why Europe needs NABUCCO when it can satisfy only 5% of its needs? Perhaps one answer could be that Europe wants to diversify its sources of natural gas supply, but the problem is whether Azerbaijan, the obvious provider, can supply NABUCCO with natural gas.

The NABUCCO management now says it will receive gas from several sources, including not only Azerbaijan but Turkmenistan, Iran, Iraq and Russia. However Turkmenistan has not so far been the most reliable partner. The main concern of the NABUCCO management is when the second stage of gas production at the Shah Deniz field will begin.
