President’s Administration Releases Information on Baku Energy Summit

The President’s Administration has released information on the Baku energy summit.

According to the President’s Administration, a face-to-face meeting between Mikheil Saakashvili and Ilham Aliyev is scheduled before the opening of the summit today.

The energy project of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania will be signed by the three Presidents at the summit tomorrow.

The summit is being held within the framework of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI), a joint gas project of the three countires.

Tbilisi hosts international conference

Tbilisi is to host an international conference organized by the World Bank and the National Bank of Georgia. The conference will last one week and its participants will discuss the issues of global financial crisis, risk management policy and modern problems in the sector and the ways of overcoming these problems. Forty authorities from 20 various countries have arrived in Tbilisi to attend the conference.

`Our country has overcome several shocks recently and nevertheless, we have succeeded to solve many problems. Both fiscal sector and the economics generally, have luckily returned to the growing position. It`s very important that we have managed to maintain our currency reserves on an adequate level. All these activities are impossible without good knowledge of risk management, to which this conference is dedicated,` president of the NGB told journalists today.

Condition of Georgians, Captured by Somali Pirates, is Satisfactory, Foreign Ministry Informs

The condition of the Georgians, captured by the Somlai pirates, is satisfactory, according to an announcement made today by Sergi Kapanadze, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

According to him, the Foreign Ministry received the last information regarding the Georgian captives on Saturday. The sum of ransom is as yet unknown.

A ship, with 13 Georgian sailors, was seized by Somali pirates on 8 September.

Alpine Ecology Institute opened in remote region

Education and Environmental Ministers and the Rector of Ilia State University opened the Institute of Alpine Ecology in Stepantsminda. The institute is a research center providing modern research and working environment for scientists of different fields.

The Institute of Alpine Ecology will serve as the education center for Stepantsminda and the whole region. Carrying out conferences, seminars, summer schools and other events will be available for the youth of this region.

Ilia State University invested 500 000 GEL for the center development in 2009-2010.

President visited family of Georgia`s best pupil

The Georgian President arrived in Kutaisi yesterday and visited the family of Georgia`s best pupil - Tsotne Tabidze. Tabidze, who is 18 years old, won the gold medal at the international competition in information science held in Canada. This is Georgia`s first success on the international stage.

The President congratulated the boy on the success and promised support from the state in his further education.

Georgian, French, Azerbaijan film for Oscar

Film Division - a joint production of Geoorgia, Azerbaijan and France has been nominated for an Academy award, better known as an Oscar. The film is a journey of a famous photographer in childhood and is a mystic work, which has been nominated for the Best Foreign Movie. Georgian actor Zaza Bezhanishvili plays a key role in it.

Paata Burchuladze decorated with Presidential Prize of Brilliance

Outstanding Georgian bass, opera star Paata Burchuladze has been decorated with the Presidential Prize of Brilliance. Burchuladze was invited to the opening ceremony of the Cadet Corps in Kutaisi today, where the Georgian President awarded him with the prize and spoke about his achievements.

The ceremony was opened with the national anthem of Georgia, which the great singer performed together with young cadets.

Mikheil Saakashvili said Paata Burchuladze is a great Georgian singer and an example of great achievements. The President hailed the activities carried out by Paata Burchuladze and called upon media and society to support him in his charitable activities. [Paata Burchuladze is the founder of the charitable foundation Iavnana].

Minister of Defence Bacho Akhalaia, the head of Staff of Armed Forces Devi Chankotadze and Metropolitan, Kalistrate were also in attendance.

In his speech, the President spoke about the importance of the Cadet Corps and hailed the contest, which was the highest during the unified entrance exams in comparison with other universities. Saakashvili said the resource of patriotism in Georgian youth was very large and the country should use it effectively.
