Turkey and Iran have started negotiating the idea of establishing a free economic zone between the borders of these two countries. The negotiations are almost finished and there only remains the final decision to be taken by the heads of the two states. It is envisaged that after the project is launched the neighboring countries could invite other to join, namely Azerbaijan and Georgia. Armenian participation is feasible as well after Turkish-Armenian relations were re-regulated. Both countries think that the creation of a free economic zone will give additional momentum to the development of better economic relations between the two countries, increasing trade turnover in the region.
