Another pardoning is expected
24 Hours reports that for New Year and Christmas Holidays, 400-500 convicts will leave prison after being pardoned. Dimitri Lortkipanidze, member of the pardoning commission and MP, made a statement to confirm this decision. Lortkipanidze said that the pardoning, which took place on the occasion of St. George’s day, has been continuing and 220 convicts are leaving prison at a time. “Another pardoning will take place during the Christmas and New Year holiday and, overall, 400-500 convicts will leave the prison,” MP said.
Lortkipanidze says that the commission members chose those convicts who did not commit a serious crime, however the president himself has a right to pardon those convicts who have committed serious crime before.
Rescuers searching for an alpinist in Mestia
Rescuers are searching for an alpinist, lost in an avalanche in Mestia, Svaneti region, 24 Hours reports.
Rescue works have already been under way for two days, Gocha Gvaramia, chairman of the City Council of Mestia said the alpinist was lost in the avalanche on Monday. “Another alpinist escaped the avalanche and informed us of the incident”, Gvaramia said. They have been unable to take special vehicles to the disaster area and the rescuers can only hope that the weather does not worsen to hinder the rescue operation.
Kakha Shartava not ruling out self-liquidation of National Forum
Kakha Shartava, leader of the opposition party National Forum, does not rule out the possibility of self-liquidation of the National Forum .
