Former foreign minister of Armenia, Alexander Arzumanian, thinks that despite Sarkozy's visit to Armenia, France will not lead the initiative for conflict resolution in the Karabakh region. According to the former minister, Russia is the leading force in the South Caucasus and it is impossible to achieve any kind of progress in this direction without Russia. According to Arzumanian, Sarkozy’s statement in Yerevan concerning the Armenian genocide is a PR stunt targeted at attracting the Armenian diaspora in France during the forthcoming presidential elections. As for French readiness to invest in Armenia the former minister does not see any conflict of interest between France and Russia. According to him the biggest share of the energy market is in Russian hands anyway.
