Between December 2011 and January 2012, 37 new hospitals were opened in Georgia, thanks to a program which, according to government officials, will facilitate the improvement of the country's healthcare system. None of the hospitals are state-owned; they are operated by pharmaceutical, insurance, and similar corporations.

Critics note that while this is a positive development for Georgia, many Georgians are not properly insured, and prices in private hospitals may be prohibitively expensive for some individuals.
