Armenia asks Georgia to recognize genocide

The Armenian parish of its Orthodox Church in Georgia, along with other Armenian organizations, has asked the President of Georgia, Speaker of Parliament and Mayor of Tbilisi to recognize the 1915 Turkish actions against Armenia as genocide.

This event is recognized as genocide in 20 countries worldwide. While the US government has not officially recognized it as a genocide, the administrations of 43 American states commemorate the day.

Analysts suggest that, as Turkey is a strategic partner of Georgia, it is unlikely that the Georgian government will recognize the event as genocide.
