Tuesday, May 8
Last week, Minister of Education and Science Dimitri Shashkin, visited the construction site of Mermisi, a vocational college in Sanzona, Tbilisi.
Construction began in December and will be completed by September 2012. The college will offer the first three levels of vocational educational programs, and will be provided with up-to-date technical facilities and staffed with qualified personnel.
The college is intended to meet labour market demands, as it will offer specialties in the service, tourism, and construction fields.
Preparing a qualified workforce is one of the priorities of the Georgian government, according to Shashkin. The Ministry is implementing reforms in the vocational education field, including rehabilitation and upgrading of infrastructure and re-training staff, in pursuit of this goal.
