Prime Minister of Georgia Vano Merabishvili visits highway construction site in Shida Kartli

Prime Minister of Georgia, Vano Merabishvili and the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ramaz Nikolaishvili, visited the construction site of the highway in the Ruisi-Agara sector. The prime minister emphasized that one of the main priorities of the government is the development of Georgia’s infrastructure.
According to Merabishvili, 1,500 people will be employed within the framework of the project, the majority of which will be the population of the nearby villages. Merabishvili paid special attention to the quality of the new concrete pavement, which during the subsequent 32 years, will not need any repairs. The Prime Minister explained that the road will significantly decrease travel times and costs for motorists, and will also increase the comfort and safety of travel.
Merabishvili also spoke about the other current and planned infrastructural projects, including the Kutaisi and Kobuleti bypasses, as well as the Tbilisi-Rustavi highway, the construction of which is planned soon.
The highway construction in the Ruisi-Agara sector is being coordinated by the Motor Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. The actual work has been carried out by a Chinese company. The project includes a 19 km stretch of highway construction and repair, as well as the reconstruction of an 11 km section of the existing road and the construction of an 8 km section of the Agara bypass.
