Tuesday, September 11
With Maia Grigolashvili’s assistance, a public lawyer from Shida Kartli Legal Aid Bureau, V.S. who was supposed to be sentenced from three to five years of restriction of freedom was fully acquitted by a court.
According to case materials, V.S. having penetrated into his neighbor’s shelter, has stolen a sewing machine and has passed it as scrap-iron. The defendant was indigent, therefore a public lawyer was appointed to him.
In the process of investigation, V.S. confessed his guilt, yet he specified that he had stolen only gas tanks, rather than the sewing machine. As victim stated, only the sewing machine was of a value from the stolen objects and he was going to get rid of gas tanks himself.
At the stage of court examination, the prosecution failed to submit sufficient evidences for proving the fact of theft by V.S. In view of this, Maia Grigolashvili requested acquittal of the defendant.
Finally, Gori regional court accepted public lawyer’s position and rendered acquitting judgment.
