Tuberculosis Treatment and Rehabilitation Center is Already Operational in Ksani

Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia (MCLA) – Giorgi Tugushi and the First Lady – Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs visited the newly constructed Tuberculosis Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Ksani on September 28, along with representatives of the EU Mission, the Public Defender’s Office and NGOs.
In the framework of penitentiary healthcare reform strategy, MCLA continues permanent tuberculosis screening, prevention and effective treatment activities.
As a result of implemented reforms, spread of tuberculosis is currently under full control, which supports prevention of spreading disease as well as its timely and effective treatment.
In the framework of reform, Tuberculosis Treatment and Rehabilitation Center will be operational in Ksani in the near future, the construction of which was carried out under the supervision of experts of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and the Global Fund.
The new 5-story building, which is equipped with modern medical technology and a unique ventilation system is in line with European standards and has the capacity of 750 patients. It enables complete epidemic control as well.
It should be noted that Tuberculosis Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, under the epidemiological control provides the possibility of adequate treatment to all diseased inmates.
Operation of the establishment guarantees eradication of the problems that are related to the spread of tuberculosis and its treatment. Construction expenses of Tuberculosis Treatment and Rehabilitation Center will be covered by the state budget.
