Lasha Tugushi says MIA is responsible for classifying and destroying secret recordings

A meeting was held between the members of the special commission over the destruction of secret recordings on June 18. Netgazeti reports that according to commission member Lasha Tugushi, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Rezonansi newspaper, the meeting aimed at discussing the details of the destruction of the recordings, while at the previous meeting on June 14 the commission members shared opinions over the possible mechanisms of destruction.

Tugushi said both classification and destruction of the secretly recorded materials is the responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA); while the commission can only share its own views.

“Of course it is the MIA that should provide us information over the illegally made materials which need to be destroyed. They should also take responsibility for their destruction, as well as elaborate the mechanisms,” Tugushi said, stressing that the commission members do not become familiar with the recordings.

Other members of the special commission chaired by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Irakli Gharibashvili, are Prosecutor General, Archil Kbilashvili, Public Defender, Ucha Nanuashvili, Executive Director of Transparency International Georgia, Eke Gigauri, and Head of the Electoral and Policy-Technology Research Centre, Kakhi Kakhishvili.
