The state of Georgian agriculture

Friday, October 11
During the last ten years, Georgia’s imports of agricultural goods have increased more than six fold, whereas agricultural exports have decreased three fold. In 2003, agriculture's share in the GDP was around 20%. Today it is around 9%. In 2003 the balance of agricultural exports-imports was almost equal. The entire agricultural system needs serious reorganization. The main problems are financing, the protection of farmer's rights, subsidies, insurance, protection of domestic markets, and promoting exports. (The Messenger)
