Hot weather spoils wheat harvest

Friday, July 11
Hot weather in different Georgian regions spoiled wheat. Spring agricultural works were carried out successfully. However, due to the improper weather conditions the harvest will not be enviable.

Thus, the claims that Georgia will be a self-sufficient country with regard to wheat have failed. The situation in the Kakheti region is poor. There is a slightly better situation in the Kartli region. Georgia needs around 800,000 tonnes of wheat to meet local demands. So far the country appears to produce just 40% of local needs in terms of wheat. (The Messenger)
