Polish President: Door to EU membership should remain open for Ukraine, Georgia

Polish President Andrzej Duda made a statement on EU membership, noting that door should remain open for Georgia, Ukraine and Balkan countries.

“Poland has been actively supporting the EU’s eastern neighbors’ rapprochement with the EU and the West, especially Ukraine, Georgia and the Western Balkans, since the beginning of its membership in the EU. We have always emphasized that the door to the European Union should remain open, and we want these countries to become part of the EU in the future,” the Polish Press Agency (PAP) quoted D

Duda talked about European values, mentioning the lack of European solidarity with regard to the Nord Stream 2 project as saying in his speech at the University of Zurich (Switzerland).

"I have no doubt that there will be no place for projects that will benefit only one country (Germany) and will endanger the energy security of all others,” said Duda regarding the Nord Stream 2 issue.

Nord Stream 2 is a new export gas pipeline running from Russia to Europe across the Baltic Sea.



Restoration of Borjomi forest to start on October 11

Restoration of Borjomi forest will begin from October 11.

Tornike Gvazava, Head of National Forestry Agency made a statement regarding the issue.

He noted that about 250 hectares will be restored during this autumn-winter season and Caucasus pine trees will be mainly planted across the territory.

It is worth mentioning that a special commission was established a year ago in order to plan and organize restoration activities, which was composed of geologists and representatives of non-governmental organizations.

200 thousand GEL is allocated for restoration works of the forest at the first stage. The local population will also be involved in process of the restoration.

The forest territory in the village of Daba in the Borjomi Municipality (which burnt down during the 2008 Russia-Georgia war), caught fire for the second time in August 2017 and destroyed around ten hectares of the forest. (By Mariam Chanishvili)
