Prime Minister of Georgia Has New Advisor

Former member of the Free Democrats, Irakli Chikovani, was appointed as Prime Minister's advisor on December 24.

He will be Mamuka Bakhtadze’s advisor for strategic issues.

Chikovani was the member of the 8th term of the Parliament of Georgia.

The Prime Minister of Georgia forms a group of advisors.

Since 2009 he was the Secretary-General of Free Democrats Party.

After the defeat in the Parliamentary elections in 2016, he left the party.

After the first round of the presidential election in 2018, Chikovani announced on TV "Pirveli" that he was returning to "Georgian Dream".

According to him, his comeback politics was connected to the fight against the United National Movement.



Half Kilogram of Heroin Seized by MIA

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia has seized half a kilogram of heroin.

The seizure came after the search and detention of a 30-year-old individual in the Kvemo Kartli region.

Law enforcers stopped the accused in Gardabani while he was taking a taxi.

The crime is punishable by 8-20 years in prison or a life sentence.

MIA stated that investigation has started into the illegal purchase and possession of a large amount of drugs.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has burnt more than one tonne of seized drugs on 22 December.

The drugs which have been seized during the investigation of 750 cases as evidence included more than two kilograms of heroin, 60 kilograms of amphetamine, 2061 pills of Subutex, 816 pills of MDMA and 189 pills of methadone.

The ministry has stated that from 1 January to November 2018, 93 drug dealers have been detained.
