Bust of Georgian poet and diplomat inaugurated in Romania

A bust of Georgian poet and diplomat Besik Gabashvili was inaugurated in the historic center of Iasi, within the days of Georgian Culture in Romania.

On behalf of the Georgian side, the event was attended by the head of Georgian-Romanian parliamentary group of friendship -Isko Daseni, Ambassador of Georgia to Romania, Nikoloz Nikolozishvili, Mayor of Iasi Mihai Chirica and the Kutaisi City Hall delegation headed by the Kutaisi Mayor Giorgi Chigvaria.

The information was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

The second edition of his collection of poems, translated into Romanian, was presented for the first time in the framework of the event.

The poet Besik Gabashvili spent the final years of his life in Iasi, Romania.

On January 25, in the Barboi Church (dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul) memorial service for the repose of the poet’s soul, also took place.

Gabashvili was a Georgian poet, politician and diplomat, known as an author of exquisite love songs and heroic odes as well as for his political and amorous adventures.



Georgian Agriculture Minister on Air Lead Content

The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili noted that there is a lot of speculation regarding the lead content in the air.

He discussed the issue during the presentation of the "Green Politics" - protection of atmospheric air.

"It is very important for us to see how the concentration of lead in atmospheric air. There is a huge public interest in it. There are many speculations about this topic. Sometimes we say that the atmospheric air is most polluted in Georgia. But we would like to provide the public with objective and unbiased information - the lead pollution is not observed in atmospheric air in Georgia, "Davitashvili said.

He noted that in 2018, in Tbilisi, 61 samples were tested for its content and no excessive amount was observed in any of the samples. Also, he said that laboratory studies have confirmed that there is no lead-containing fuel Georgia.

Lead exposure is an important public health problem that causes cumulative toxicity in multiple body systems. Children are particularly vulnerable to its neurotoxic effects.
