Lecture & Film screening by Florian Wust

By Mariam Chanishvili
Tuesday, February 12
Public Lecture and a film screening session by Florian Wust, Berlin-based independent film curator, artist and publisher, will take place on February 19 within the frames of the exhibition project “In-between Conditions” and in collaboration and with the support of the Goethe-Institut Georgia.

The lecture on February 19 will focus on the practice of film curating in the context of Transmediale and beyond.

Wust will discuss his practice as a film curator and talk about the film program of Transmediale, a yearly Berlin-based festival and cultural organization that facilitates critical reflection and interventions into processes of cultural transformation from a post-digital perspective. In the course of its more than 30-year history, Transmediale has turned into an essential event in the calendar of media art professionals, artists, activists, and students from all over the world.

During his lecture, Wust will also discuss his practice of working with archival and documentary footage, experimental and alternative films.

Transmediale is an annual festival for art and digital culture in Berlin, usually held over five days at the end of January and the beginning of February. The 2017 edition marked its 30-year anniversary.

Over the course of the following 30 years, the festival evolved steadily and independently of Berlinale (even though, it was founded within the frames of Berlinale): from its initial focus on video culture it turned to cultivate an artistic and critical dialogue with television and multimedia, eventually emerging as a leading international platform for media art.

The screening will take place on February 20 at KHIDI - Main Stage; special selection of the films from the archive of Transmediale will be screened at 6 pm.

People can also visit the 3rd floor at KHIDI contemporary art space and see the ongoing exhibition, “In-between Conditions”.

Florian Wust is the film and video curator of Transmediale since 2016. As an artist, film curator, and publisher he deals with social and economic progress in modernity as well as increasingly with urban political issues. He has curated film programs for international art institutions, cinemas, and festivals. Wüst is co-editor of the DVD edition The Modern City. Film essays on the new urbanity of the 1950s and 60s (2015), and co-founder of the journal series Berlin Journals–On the History and Present State of the City.
