Draft law prohibiting advertising of gambling games

According to the deputy Levan Gogichaisvhili, the draft law prohibiting advertising of gambling games and business did not work out because he also was the initiator himself.

“ Of course, the draft law prohibiting advertising of gambling didn’t work out because of me, but it has to enter the law at any cost – let it be someone else’s, not Levan Gogichaishvili’s” responded Gogichaishvili to Majority deputy Irakli Mezurnishvili's statement regarding that the parliamentary majority will present a new draft law about banning gambling advertising.

The legislative initiative of Levan Gogichaishvili, envisaging banning the advertisement of gambling and profitable games was passed by Parliament.

It has been more than two months since the legislative package is on the agenda of the polls and it was voted at the first hearing today. Only 42 lawmakers supported the legislative initiative.

Patriarchate’s statement about announcing a day of Georgia as the Lot of the Most Holy Virgin

The Patriarchate of Georgia releases an official statement regarding the announcement of the day of Georgia as the Lot of the Most Holy Virgin.

“The most important source about our country "Kartlis Tskhovreba (life of Kartli)" informs us that after the rise of the Lord, when the Apostles shared the share of Georgia, the conversion of the Mother of God, when the apostles voted, Georgia’s conversion was fated to Virgin Mary.

The Lord appeared to the heavenly queen prepared to travel to Iberia and ordered to stay in Jerusalem. Instead, Andrew the Apostle was sent to Georgia.

Being fated to Virgin Mary is the determination of our country's identity”

The patriarchate also stated, that Over 2,000 years, the belief of being fated to Virgin Mary determined the identity of our country. Mother of God has not only contributed to our spirituality but also made us capable of developing the culture of mankind, to build up and preserve our statehood.

Also, according to the patriarchate, regardless of the restoration of state independence, the process of improving national consciousness damaged as a result of atheist violence is very difficult and contradictory. All attempts to rebuild the country without a strong spiritual foundation are doomed to failure.

“The protection of the Holy Virgin does not mean we are privileged compared to the other nations. The Lord gives every nation the force relevant to its cross. Throughout its long history, our small nation, surrounded by empires and powerful states, had been living under conditions of endless aggression.

If not for the protection of the Holy Virgin, our people on the verge of continuous presence would not have been able to endure such bloodshed and torment.

Today, when our nation is returning to its roots again after a hard spiritual crisis, it is of great importance to restore the tradition of universal worship to the Holy Virgin, because the Heavenly Queen is our godly educator and leader on the path of spiritual uplifting. Establishing the celebration of the day of Georgia as the Lot of the Most Holy Virgin serves that purpose exactly.”
