A new educational and science town-complex will be built in Georgia’s Black Sea coastal city of Batumi.

The complex will include Komarov School, student residence, vocational education center, high tech labs, library, arts and crafts schools, sports and game fields, and recreation zone.

The center will occupy 7 hectares of land and will facilitate the performance of an education process in a modern and technologically savvy environment.

Also, it will ease and increase access to advanced technologies at every stage of learning, develop professional skills, and introduce a healthy lifestyle among the youth and future generations.

At the presentation of the project, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze noted that the government plans to implement similar projects in every region of the country to make sure that youth get all the opportunities to give rise to their talent and knowledge.

“Education is the only right way to overcome all the challenges facing Georgia, and that makes education our national idea. It can shape Georgia into a successful country in the 21st century, and I am firmly convinced that Georgia has a unique talent and potential,” the PM said.

He also reiterated that GEL 1.6 billion has been allocated for education in the State Budget this year, which will be increased to GEL 2 billion 2.5 BLN GEL - in 2021 and one-quarter of the State Budget - in 2022.

According to Bakhtadze, the salaries of the teachers will increase from September by at least GEL 150.

“We are increasing salaries of teachers by at least 150 GEL from autumn this year, and the increase will turn into an annual trend to reach 1500-1800 GEL a month in 2022 on average. Country, which does not reward teachers for their efforts may not only lose its future but its past as well,” he added.

Mikheil Batiashvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Georgia spoke about the importance of complex reform and underlined that education reform, which includes all directions, will fully transform this system.

"The town of Education and Science in Batumi, like in Tbilisi, will be the uniting hub for our children! Here, modern libraries and laboratories, Komarov School, School of Arts, Sports Playgrounds and Technological Centers, Vocational Education Center and many other facilities will be opened in one space," said the Minister, who thanked the Prime Minister and all the people who participate in the founding process of the complex.
