Georgian Prime Minister, Mamuka Bakhtadze pledged that the country would have “the most modern infrastructure by 2022.”

The PM made the statement on July 23, at the presentation of the 6-month report of the projects that were funded within the framework of the education, infrastructure and village support programs, regional projects and mountain foundations.

“By 2022, Georgia will have the most modern infrastructure, enabling us to develop our economy further, to make more and more people to be engaged in the economic development and to defeat poverty overcome poverty,” the PM said.

According to Bakhtadze, it is impossible to overcome poverty without regional development.

“Therefore, we should set up more ambitious tasks in this direction, and I am sure the second half of the year will be even more successful,” he said.

The PM expressed hope that in this direction, the second half of the year will be much more successful and fruitful than the first one.

“Strong region means strong Georgia and regional development is one of the main priorities for the government, respectively,” he said.

Bakhtadze underlined that financing of the infrastructure projects has increased by 20% in 2019. “Regional development is a vitally important direction. Inclusive growth is essential for Georgia, and this will be possible with equal development of our regions,” he noted.

The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia stated earlier that the plan set for the first six months of the year had been fulfilled by over 100%. It also says that the Department of Roads of Georgia, which is under the ministry, exceeded its plan for 6 months by 7% and United Water Supply Company exceeded the plan by 15%.

“As of July 1, GEL 673 million has been spent on infrastructure projects in the country,” the ministry said.

Compared to the same period of last year, the ministry spent GEL 183 million more financial resources, which is the highest number in the history of the existence of the ministry.

“As of July 1, GEL 270 million has been allocated from the fund for regional projects. The tender has already been announced for 651 projects, from which the agreement has been signed on 563 projects costing approximately GEL 236 million,” the ministry reports.
