Georgian director Tamar Shavgulidze’s new film, “Comets” will be presented within the frames of Toronto International Film Festival in the section “Discovery.”

The film was developed with the support of the Georgian National Film Center.

The film features a love story between two middle-aged females, who meet each other after three decades of their separation. Nino Kasradze and Keti Gegeshidze are starring in the film as leading actors. Although they were separated for an extended period of time, the memories and feelings of a warm summer evening remain.

Nino Kasradze noted that the film is about the older generation and their stories, while some had to refrain and refuse from loving a certain person.

The exact date of the film’s release and world premiere is unknown at this time.

Georgian National Film Center (GNFC), which has supported the development of the film, started functioning in April 2001. Since its establishment, GNFC has provided millions (GEL) of financial investment in about 80 films. The Georgian National Film Center represented the country at international film festivals and markets.

GNFC has issued numerous important publications about cinema. It has participated in the financing of projects aimed at promoting cinema in Georgia.

One of the priorities of the Georgian National Film Center is to turn cinema into a product that will facilitate economic development of the country as well as its cultural and educational values.

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world, attracting over 480,000 people annually.

Founded in 1976, the festival has grown to become a permanent destination for film culture operating out of the TIFF Bell Lightbox, located in downtown Toronto.

The festival starts in the first week of September and lasts for 11 days.
