Georgia is not Russia- protest of Lelos’ captain and coach in Japan

The head coach of the Georgian National team, Milton Hauge, and captain, Jaba Bregvadze, objected to the fact that Russian song is being played during their matches at the Rugby World Cup. As Popsport writes, at yesterday’s game to celebrate Lelos’ try a Russian-language song by Valeri Meladze, Georgian singer working in Russia, was played.

“I would like to take a moment to ask the staff to pay more attention. A Russian melody has been played during our games many times before and it would be nice if they don’t repeat this mistake,” said the captain at a post-match press conference.

Hague also protested what happened, saying that Georgia is not Russia and world rugby should consider this.

“We have different languages, different cultures, and everything else. So, it would be great if the world rugby paid more attention to that,” said Hague.

This is not the first time that a different song has been played by mistake. Georgia’s old anthem “glory” was played during the match against Scotland, before the World Cup.

The Lelos defeated the Uruguayan tea with the score 33:7 today and gained a bonus point. Georgian National team made 5 tries.

The Rugby World Cup takes place in Japan. The next match for the Georgian National team will be on October 3rd.

Salome Zourabichvili: It’s impossible for Georgia not to hold dialogue with Russia

“I also made it clear in my speech that for a country that has this kind of conflict and issues with occupied territories, there are two ways- one is the war, the military way that we have refused; the second one is dialogue and diplomacy. It’s impossible for Georgia not to try this way.

It is remarkable that the reactions we have heard after this meeting- whether from the US, US State Department or the European Union, as well as from the Reporter’s office or Secretary-General- all the feedback we received was positive, that you should try it and we are with you. We are not alone and we never will be, we are with the support of our partners. But if we stop and be in isolation, it would probably not be right,” President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili told Georgian Public Broadcasting journalist when she was asked to comment on the meeting between the Georgian and Russian foreign ministers.

On the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov. “After consulting with our strategic partner, we decided that meeting with Lavrov would be the first opportunity to speak directly to Russia at such a level,” said David Zalkaniani, after the meeting. Lavrov said that the meeting was initiated by the Georgian Foreign Minister and that he requested that direct flights between Russia and Georgia be restored.
