European Day of Jewish Culture to be celebrated in Tbilisi

Tbilisi will host an event dedicated to the European Days of Jewish Culture organized by the House of Israel in Tbilisi on October 21st. For the third year in a row, the House of Israel, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, is overseeing the Jewish Cultural Heritage Route in Georgia. The route is certified by the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage (AEPJ) at the Council of Europe.

First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Tamar Chugoshvili, MPs, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Davit Gabaidze, Head of the Council of Europe Representation in Georgia Christian Urse, representatives of the Jewish Diaspora, Culture and Business are invited to the event. Especially for this event, an official 30-member delegation from Israel headed by Amir Feretsi, chairman of the parliamentary party Avoda, and a journalist from the influential Yedioth Ahronoth, visited Tbilisi.

Within the framework of the event dedicated to the European Days of Jewish Culture, a photo exhibition depicting Goga Chanadiri's work - Jewish Cultural Heritage in Georgia will be held. The photographer took photos depicting the Jewish cultural heritage in Georgia ordered by the House of Israel.

According to Isik Moshe, head of the House of Israel, this year's European Days of Jewish Culture are an anniversary. It has been celebrated for the 20th year under the auspices of the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage (AEPJ) at the Council of Europe. In Georgia, the Jewish Cultural Heritage Route certified by the Council of Europe, at the suggestion of the Ministry of Culture, is overseen by the House of Israel.

According to Amir Feretsi, the chairman of the Avoda parliamentary party, he has arrived in Georgia to familiarize himself with the activities of the House of Israel and intends to study in-depth the multifaceted prospects of the future Israeli-Georgian relations.



Winner of Warsaw International Film Festival is Georgian film ‘Shindisi’

According to the Georgian National Film Center, Dito Tsintsadze's film "Shindisi" became the winner of the Warsaw International Film Festival. At the awards ceremony, the film received a Grand Prix at the film festival, and Dito Tsintsadze was awarded the Best Director Award.

The film is based on the story of the 2008 Russian-Georgian war in which seventeen Georgian soldiers were killed.

The film was selected by the Georgian Film Center at the 92nd Annual American Film Academy Awards to be presented in the category of an international feature film.



Explosion occurred on Guramishvili Avenue in Tbilisi

Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reports about an explosion in a residential building on Guramishvili Avenue.

“There are no casualties as a result of an explosion in a residential building on Guramishvili Avenue in Tbilisi. Four citizens were injured and taken to various hospitals by ambulances. According to initial reports, an explosion in a 16-story residential building led to the accumulation of gas, which resulted in the collapse of the fourth floor of the building and windows on the opposite building collapsing.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters were able to evacuate the entire population. Firefighter rescue teams remain on site until work is completed. Also, patrol and criminal police crews, ambulances and all relevant departments are mobilized on Guramishvili Street.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the blast under the first part of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. This includes violations of safety regulations during construction or operation, resulting in less severe or severe damage to health and significant damage,” said the report.

The explosion in the 16-story building was caused by the accumulation of gas. The owner of the apartment where the explosion occurred today refused to open the door to the Tbilisi Energy inspection team, Natia Mikiashvili, a spokeswoman for Tbilisi Energy, told reporters.

According to Mikiashvili, after the water heater was temporarily installed at the site, representatives of Tbilisi Energy came to monitor it, but the apartment owner did not open the door.

Four citizens were injured by the blast, three of them were taken to TSMU's first university clinic. Two of them were discharged and according to the doctor, Lali Turdzeladze, the third person in the same clinic will be discharged soon.

As for the fourth person injured in the explosion, his condition is the worst. The injured man was taken to Khechinashvili University Hospital. According to the doctor, about 60% of the man's body is burnt.
