The National Bank of Georgia is hosting high-level international conferences and workshops within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Finance of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Organization for Economic Cooperation International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE).

The events are being held within the framework of the 5-year Education Technical Support Project (2018-2022) organized by the OECD/INFE, with the participation of 6 Eastern European states - Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Croatia.

The conference entitled "Financial Education and Literacy: Promoting Financial Education in Southeast Europe" was opened by the President of the National Bank of Georgia Koba Gvenetadze.

During his speech, Gvenetadze talked about the importance of the project and expressed his gratitude towards the government of the Netherlands and the representatives of OECD/INFE.

“Raising the financial literacy of the Georgian population is one of the priority tasks of the National Bank of Georgia, as it is one of the most important and basic skills of the 21st Century for people’s financial well-being. It is very important for us, together with the countries involved in the project, to share and consider international experience,” noted president of NBG.

The conference participants will discuss conceptual and institutional issues related to the implementation of the National Financial Education Strategy. In addition, experiences, achievements and challenges in the region, as well as future development stages of the project will be discussed.

Workshops are attended by high-level officials from various countries, including experts whose sole responsibility is to develop and implement national financial education initiatives in their respective countries. The meetings are focused on responding to the challenges of financial literacy and discussing different policy options for target groups such as the younger generation - pupils and students, rural residents and micro, small and medium-sized businesses.

The meeting is organized by the National Bank of Georgia and the OECD/INFE, based on the technical support of the Ministry of Finance of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the experience of "Money Wise" platform.

The Money Wise Platform is the platform in which partners pool their strengths to advance responsible financial behavior in the Netherlands. Her Majesty Queen Maxima is the honorary chair of the Money Wise platform.

OECD governments officially recognized the importance of financial literacy in 2002 with the launch of a unique and comprehensive project. In 2008 the project was further enhanced through the creation of the International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE)

The OECD/INFE is made up of members from over 120 countries and overseen by an Advisory Board.
