Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, attended a meeting of the Investors Council yesterday.

“The Investor Council is a very important and effective platform for dialogue between government agencies, businesses, and international financial institutions. It has been in existence for two years now and has emerged as a very effective mechanism working on specific issues to make our investment environment even more attractive,” said Turnava after the meeting.

According to the Minister, the successes achieved in the format of the Investor Council were mentioned at the meeting. Turnava said several legislations have been developed and there has been a great deal of support from the Investors Council.

“This is a bill on insolvency, which is important for business development, as well as a bill on investment funds, which has been prepared in such co-operation and will be submitted to parliament soon,” said the Minister.

Turnava noted that the investors' council has numerous useful recommendations prepared for the Georgian tourism in 2020 and that this institution also played a huge role in getting direct foreign investments for Enterprise Georgia, where International Finance Corporation and World Bank are participating.

“It has been decided that in the form of similar working groups, using this platform, we will cooperate in the formulation and implementation of the energy sector reform, as the ongoing reform is of great interest to investors,” said the minister.

The Investor Council is one of the most representative bodies in Georgia, bringing together about ten business associations, international financial institutions and diplomats.

“This is a very good way for both foreign capital and business to make their voices heard and to work in a specific work regime on any reform, policy or bill. We agreed that we will continue and enhance this platform and will cover more new areas with this cooperation,” stressed Turnava.

Investors Council is an independent advisory body to the Prime Minister of Georgia, intending to promote dialogue between the private business community, international organizations, donors and Government of Georgia for the development of a favorable, non-discriminatory, transparent and fair business and investment climate in Georgia.

The IC is responsible for facilitating constructive dialogue and exchange of views between the Prime Minister, Ministries and other executive Agencies under their subordination on the one hand, and the private sector, on the other hand, to improve and encourage a sound investment climate.
