GEOSTAT publishes report on producer price index for industrial products in Georgia

The National Statistics Office of Georgia, GEOSTAT, published a report on the producer price index for industrial products in Georgia in January of 2020.

Producer Price Index for Industrial Products decreased by 0.6 percent compared to the previous month, while compared to January 2019 the index growth amounted to 7.1 percent.

The prices for manufactured products decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month, resulting in a -0.43-percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change.

Within the group, a noteworthy price decrease was registered for chemicals and chemical products (9.8 percent) and basic metals (2.2 percent).

For Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services prices went down by 2.9 percent, contributing -0.29 percentage points to the overall monthly index growth.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the following products: Manufactured products: the prices increased by 7.4 percent, contributing 6.01 percentage points to the overall annual index growth. There was an increase in the prices for food products (11.4 percent). Products from mining and quarrying: the prices increased by 20.8 percent, contributing 1.30 percentage points to the overall annual index growth. In January 2020, the Domestic Producer Price Index for Industrial Products (DPPI) decreased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month. In the mentioned period the prices for Electricity,

Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning decreased by 2.9 percent.

Compared to January 2019 the DPPI increased by 4.6 percent. The prices went up for mining and quarrying products by 15.4, for manufactured products by 4.7 percent and for products from electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning by 7.4 percent.

The Export Price Index (XPI) decreased by 1.3 percent compared to the previous month. There was a 1.7 percent decrease in the prices for manufactured products.

Compared to January 2019 the XPI increased by 11.7 percent. In the mentioned period prices increased for manufactured products by 9.0 percent and for products from mining and quarrying by 32.9 percent.

The Import Price Index (MPI) decreased by 0.6 percent over the previous month, while compared to January 2019 the Index increased by 9.1 percent.

Compared to January 2019 the prices were 9.5 percent higher for manufactured products, while for products from mining and quarrying a price increase of 5.6 percent was registered. As for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning, the prices were 6.1 percent lower.
