Flights between Georgia and Iran restricted amid coronavirus fears, MFA of Georgia states

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia released a statement that reads that the flights between Iran and Georgia are temporarily suspended.

The government has warned Georgian citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran.

According to the government, the highest prevalence of coronavirus after China is currently in Iran. The Iranian government stated it is taking all measures to prevent coronavirus and is screening passengers traveling from Iran, but due to the current situation, flights have still been restricted.

The government says they have taken appropriate steps to ensure the safety of Georgian citizens residing in China. The Government of Georgia is in constant contact with both the World Health Organization and the international community to obtain operational information on the scale of the virus.

The Georgian government is in constant contact with the Iranian authorities to receive information and operationally take preventive measures. According to reports, the Iranian government is taking all measures to prevent further growth of coronavirus cases, as well as screening passengers leaving Iran. However, given the current situation, the Georgian Government has decided to restrict the movement of individuals from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Georgia and vice versa. According to the decision of the government, the flow of passengers from Iran to Georgia will be temporarily suspended.
