The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has applauded the landmark agreement signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington, D.C., between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia. The deal, mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump, aims to establish peace and formal interstate relations between the two long-time adversaries.

"This historic agreement is a significant step towards establishing sustainable peace in the South Caucasus region and paves the way for new opportunities for the long-term and stable development of the region," the ministry said in an official statement.

The accord was concluded following talks between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Georgia's Foreign Ministry emphasized that the breakthrough "opens up new opportunities for the long-term and stable development of the region" and represents a major advance in resolving one of the most entrenched conflicts in the post-Soviet space.

The statement also underscored Georgia's commitment to regional stability. "Georgia firmly supports the consolidation of peace in the region and the strengthening of cooperation, which will be aimed at the stability and prosperity of the South Caucasus region," the ministry noted.

Tbilisi praised Washington's role in facilitating the deal. "We particularly welcome the outstanding contribution and efforts of the United States of America and President Donald Trump personally in ending the decades-long conflict in the South Caucasus," the statement read.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze also welcomed the breakthrough, calling it a milestone for the entire region. "Georgia welcomes this historic moment for Armenia, Azerbaijan, the region and the entire world! Congratulating Donald Trump, Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan on this success, closing a landmark peace deal and opening a new era of stability and economic development in the region. Georgia has always stood for regional peace and cooperation and will continue to support it unwaveringly," Kobakhidze wrote on X.

Expressing hope for wider implications, the ministry concluded that the agreement could inspire further conflict resolution efforts globally. "We hope that this historic event will have a chain reaction effect in terms of peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Black Sea region and the world as a whole," it said.
