Georgia's Customs Department Blocks 2,658 Shipments in 2025, Kobakhidze Says

Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze spoke about the country's enforcement of international sanctions during a ceremony on International Customs Day on January 26. The event was attended by members of the Georgian Dream cabinet and representatives of the Customs Department.
Kobakhidze said the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance works in constant coordination with international partners to ensure sanctions are enforced effectively. "Our customs administration exercises strict control in order to exclude the use of Georgian territory for evading sanctions completely."
Kobakhidze reported that in 2025 alone, the Customs Department refused clearance and returned goods in 2,658 cases. "This data clearly confirms the responsible attitude of our state towards global security and once again emphasizes Georgia's reputation as a reliable international partner," Kobakhidze said.
He also highlighted the government's support for the Customs Service, saying authorities will continue to provide institutional backing and ensure proper working conditions. "Your success directly reflects on the strength of our country. Once again, I congratulate you on your professional day, and wish you peace and success for the benefit of our homeland," he added.
The ceremony emphasized the central role of customs officers in protecting Georgia's compliance with international sanctions. Kobakhidze noted that the Revenue Service and Customs Administration work closely to prevent any misuse of Georgian territory, and praised their dedication to enforcing the rules.
He repeated that the government's support will continue in the future, ensuring that customs officers can perform their duties effectively. "The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance is in constant and operational coordination with international partners in the area of sanctions enforcement," Kobakhidze said. "Our customs administration exercises strict control to completely exclude the use of the territory of Georgia for evading sanctions."
Kobakhidze closed his remarks by congratulating staff for their professionalism and commitment, underlining the importance of their work for the country's international standing and security.
