Investigation Launched Into Death of State Security Service Anti-Corruption Officer

The Tbilisi Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal investigation into the death of Simon Tsakadze, Chief Inspector of the State Security Service's Anti-Corruption Agency. The probe is being conducted under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, which relates to incitement to suicide.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, Tsakadze was found dead inside his car from a gunshot wound on the morning of the incident. "During the inspection of the scene, a gun that the deceased had with him and a letter that was seen on the side seat were seized. Relevant urgent investigative actions are underway," the statement said.
The State Security Service expressed deep sorrow over Tsakadze's death and extended condolences to his family, relatives, and colleagues. "Once again, we express our deep sorrow over the death of our employee, Chief Inspector of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Simon Tsakadze, and we extend our condolences to his family, relatives, and colleagues. His death is a great tragedy and loss for us," the agency said.
Tsakadze had worked with the Anti-Corruption Agency since 2015 and was described by colleagues as a highly professional and dedicated employee. "Simon Tsakadze had worked in our service since 2015 and was a worthy, experienced employee who was distinguished by his dedication to his work and high professionalism," the State Security Service noted.
The agency also addressed the spread of unverified claims and rumors following the incident. "Speculative statements are being spread by certain individuals regarding this extremely serious incident, which further aggravates the pain of the deceased's family, friends, and colleagues. We humbly ask everyone to refrain from manipulative statements and respect the memory of the deceased," it said.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, with all relevant urgent actions being taken to determine the circumstances surrounding Tsakadze's death.
