The Georgian Dream Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said a recent visit to the People's Republic of China will strengthen economic relations and support future investment between the two countries.

Kvrivishvili said high-level meetings were held with representatives of both the public and private sectors, including talks at China's National Development and Reform Commission, where the sides agreed to establish a new dialogue mechanism aimed at attracting Chinese investment.

"Together with the Minister of Commerce, I signed an updated version of the Free Trade Agreement, which will further strengthen and consolidate trade and economic relations between the two countries," she said. "We also made a very important decision to create an intergovernmental format that will ensure the attraction of the largest investments."

She added that discussions were held with major Chinese companies in the energy and automotive sectors, focusing on investment opportunities, local production, and energy development in Georgia.

Kvrivishvili also pointed to an agreement with China Eastern Airlines to launch direct flights between Shanghai and Tbilisi starting July 15.

"This decision will strengthen people-to-people relations, economic ties and provide an incentive to strengthen our country's tourism industry," she said, adding that the Chinese market is strategic for Georgia and that direct flights are expected to boost visitor numbers and spending.

Kvrivishvili said the visit's outcomes would have a positive impact on trade, investment, and broader economic cooperation between the two countries.
