Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met Singapore's political leaders and business representatives on July 22 during an official visit focused on investment, trade, and transport cooperation.
Kobakhidze arrived in Singapore on July 21 with Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, and Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani.
The visit follows recent trips by the Georgian Dream government to Central Asia and comes as Tbilisi continues to have limited high-level engagement with the United States and the European Union.
Kobakhidze held talks with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, where the two discussed bilateral relations, trade, investment, transport, and tourism. According to the Georgian Dream government, they described ties between the two countries as "long-standing and productive," and "based on mutual respect and cooperation in areas of shared interest."
Kobakhidze also met President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. According to the government administration, the talks focused on expanding trade and investment, as well as political and cultural cooperation. Kobakhidze said Georgia was ready to "deepen cooperation with Singapore's leading financial centres and investment funds" and thanked the president for his "firm support" for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Georgian delegation also met representatives of nearly 30 Singaporean fintech companies. According to the government, Kobakhidze promoted Georgia as an investment destination, pointing to its strategic location, business environment, tax system, and economic growth.
Later, the delegation met Eugene Gan, CEO of Changi Airports International, to discuss Georgia's aviation sector, including the planned expansion of Tbilisi International Airport and the construction of a new airport in Vaziani. The sides also explored possible cooperation in airport development and management.
