Kobakhidze Hails China as 'Global, Peaceful Superpower'
Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze described China as a "global, peaceful superpower" committed to international cooperation and stability during a farewell event for Chinese Ambassador Zhou Qian, whose diplomatic mission in Georgia has come to an end.
Thanking the ambassador for his work in strengthening bilateral relations, Kobakhidze said peace and stability are among the key values shared by Georgia and China.
"Among the principles that unite our countries, peace and stability occupy a special place. In this regard, China is a model country, a global, peaceful superpower committed to international cooperation and strengthening stability," Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze also thanked Beijing for its support of Georgia's territorial integrity.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chinese government for its unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders," he said.
NBG Says Banks Will Continue Providing Lari Services to Telasi Despite EU Sanctions on Inter RAO
Commercial banks in Georgia will continue to provide services in the national currency to the electricity distributor Telasi, despite new EU sanctions on its indirect owner, Russia's Inter RAO, the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) said.
In a statement, the NBG said Telasi is not included on any sanctions list, even though its indirect owner, Inter RAO, is covered by the European Union's 21st sanctions package against Russia.
The central bank said Telasi provides critical services whose uninterrupted operation is essential for both the public and the economy.
"The aforementioned company is an indirect owner of JSC Telasi. In addition, JSC Telasi itself is not included in the list of sanctioned entities and is a company providing critical services, the uninterrupted functioning of which is necessary for the population and the economy," the NBG said.
According to the regulator, it applies measures that ensure compliance with international sanctions while also maintaining the continuity of essential services.
The NBG added that each case involving sanctions is assessed individually, taking into account the nature and purpose of the transactions.
"Accordingly, banks will continue to provide services to JSC Telasi in the national currency, in accordance with the requirements of applicable sanctions, NBG regulations, their own policies, as well as risk assessment approaches," the statement said.
