Azerbaijani company Azerinshat Service will be constructing 30 kilometers of the new Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railroad.
The company competed with Georgian and Turkish companies for the tender, winning the contract to build the Kartsakhi–Akhalkalaki segment in Georgia.
Construction should begin by the end of December and, according to the news agency Regnum, Azerinshat has until October 1, 2009 to finish.
The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railroad, being built at an estimated cost of USD 422 million, was born out of an agreement signed this February. It will link Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey through a combination of new rail and repaired old tracks.
