Georgia is yet to sign a long-term gas agreement with Azerbaijan, the newspaper Rezonansi reports.
Tbilisi hopes to secure its entire gas requirement from Azerbaijan so that it does not have to rely on Russia. However, so far it has only signed monthly contracts with Baku.
From January to October, 2007, Azerbaijan supplied 1.2 million cubic meters of natural gas a day to Georgia at a cost of USD 120 per 1 000 cubic meters. However, energy expert Chingiz Veliev says the price of Azerbaijani gas could soon rise to USD 150–160 per 1 000 cubic meters.
