Energy issues were high on the agenda during Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s first official visit to Washington last week. Gul discussed the importance of Caspian Sea energy reserves for Europe’s energy security with US Vice President Dick Cheney, according to the news agency Regnum.
The Turkish delegation also discussed exporting Iraqi natural gas to Europe via Turkey.
“We have reached an agreement with the United States on the issue…the Turkish Petroleum Corporation has an excellent knowledge of the geology of Iraq. Besides, Turkey has open communication channels with Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds in the country,” the news agency ChinaView quoted Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler as saying.
