Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR has been exporting natural gas to Iran since the beginning of February, vice-president of Azerigaz Nazim Samedzade said at a news conference last week, according to Russian news agency ITAR-TASS.

Iran is reportedly paying USD 300 per thousand cubic meters, importing a total of 30 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan over roughly a month’s time.

Iran recently experienced gas shortages after Turkmenistan shut off its gas supply in December, citing technical problems.

Georgia imported natural gas from Azerbaijan at a cost of USD 120 per thousand cubic meters until its contract expired in January; Tbilisi is currently in talks with Baku over renewing gas imports.
