“Kakheti residents demand MP be punished”
Akhali Taoba reports that the Kakheti-based NGO Human Rights Center is demanding an investigation into a majoritarian MP who also heads the ruling party’s regional branch office in Sighnaghi.
Journalists and the NGO accuse MP Nugzar Abulashvili of ordering the beating of reporters in June 2006 and the destruction of their equipment.
State prosecutors investigated the incident but did convict anyone of the attacks, which reportedly left three journalists injured.
The NGO claims that Abulashvili is still “terrorizing” journalists in the eastern province.
“Fire killed one man in Zugdidi”
A house fire on March 21 left one man dead in the western town of Zugdidi, Rezonansi reports.
The dead man was named as Igor Kilava. Faulty electric power lines are suspected of starting the fire that burned down his family’s home.

March 21 was journalists’ day, Sakartvelos Respublika writes, and in Georgia’s second city of Kutaisi local media celebrated by organizing a fashion show.
Fashion designers Esma Khetsuriani and Ana Tortladze created outfits for 26 journalists in the show, which was put on by local radio station Dzveli Kalaki.
After the fashion show, an awards ceremony for local journalists was held.
A day for Georgian journalists has been celebrated for the last 15 years on March 21, according to the newspaper.
