NABUCCO will not pass through Armenia
Friday, September 26
Ali Hasanov, a representative of the Azeri administration, stated on September 24 that the route of the new NABUCCO natural gas pipeline has been fixed as stretching from Azerbaijan through Georgia, Turkey, Greece and Italy.
Hasanov said that he has no information about any possible change of route. Azerbaijan will not cooperate with Armenia on this project unless it leaves the Azerbaijani lands it has occupied and restores peace in the South Caucasus.
Under the NABUCCO project 26-32 billion cubic metres of natural gas will be transported to Europe annually. The target date for completing the pipeline construction is 2013. Austrian, Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Hungarian and German companies are part of the consortium which will construct it.
