Monday, October 27
In the near future the transportation of oil from the Kazakh rig Tengiz through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline will start. The oil will be transported by tanker from Aktau and pumped into the pipeline. Kazakh oil will thus be transported from Ceyhan Port to the world market, and the amount of exported Kazakh oil will increase from 2 million tonnes to 5 million.
In future 20 million tonnes of oil will be transported annually through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov has noted that Kazakhstan has adopted a multi- vectored energy transportation policy, the route through Georgia being one of several it uses. Constructing a pipeline under the Caspian Sea is also planned.
